One thing I’ve learned after years of cycling in Thailand is that the roads can be unpredictable. Heavy traffic, narrow shoulders, stray dogs, potholes, and distracted drivers can quickly turn a great ride into a stressful one.

I wanted a way to skip those dangerous sections and start my rides where the roads are quieter and more enjoyable. So I designed and built a lightweight bicycle rack that lets me carry my bike on the back of my Honda PCX motorbike.

The rack is made from ordinary plumber’s tubing, making it lightweight, durable, and easy to handle. It installs in about two minutes and comes off just as quickly when I’m finished. After refining the design, I tested it at speeds up to 60 mph, where it performed without any adverse problems.

Like most inventions, it wasn’t perfect the first time. Early versions exposed a couple of weak points, so I reinforced the design until I was completely satisfied with its strength and stability.

This rack isn’t meant to replace a car or haul heavy cargo. It simply solves a problem I faced as a cyclist. Now I can ride the motorbike to a scenic or low-traffic area, unload the bicycle in minutes, and enjoy the ride instead of worrying about the journey to get there.

Sometimes the simplest ideas make the biggest difference. This little project has allowed me to spend more time doing what I love—cycling—and less time dealing with the unpredictable roads along the way.
